Mayor of Midsomer Norton – Councillor Martyn Plant
Councillor Martyn Plant was elected Mayor of Midsomer Norton on Monday 13th May 2024 at the Annual Town Council Meeting. Martyn is a trustee of the Midsomer Norton Community Trust and stands on the Town Council Finance and Operations committee.
About Martyn
Martyn has lived in Midsomer Norton since 2007, when he was appointed Head of Art at Norton Hill School. After 11 years, he moved to Fosse Way School, where he still teaches full time.
Martyn quickly became involved in many local groups and organisations and has been involved with organising a variety of events in the Town including music performances, art exhibitions, charity events, drama and theatre productions, and an annual Arts Festival. In recent years, as a trustee of the Community Trust, he has helped to organise the Town Fayre, the Jubilee Celebrations and other Arts and community events.
Martyn was first voted onto the Town Council towards the end of 2022, learning much about the way the Town Council functions and the many issues it faces. With his knowledge and connections along with his enthusiasm and passion for the Town and its residents, Martyn hopes to help continue the development and improvement of Midsomer Norton, by balancing its rich heritage with a modern and forward-thinking approach.
